Westover - contemporary single-storey extension

This is a contemporary extension to a bungalow (circa 1970's), nestled at the rear of the main Georgian houses and with views over the city of Bath. We were able to obtain planning for a high quality contemporary design.

The extension is single storey, with a low pitch zinc roof, open jointed timber cladding and render. On the approach side of the extension, we have upgraded the facade of the main house with new windows, rendered walls, and zinc fascia and guttering to match the extension. The intention is to upgrade the rest of the house in future. There are large bi-folding doors onto a new patio and a glass to glass corner window, giving a fantastic outlook onto the garden and the spectacular view of Bath. A large overhang provides shading in high summer. The slim frame, fixed slot windows facing the driveway provide necessary glimpses of that aspect for security, but maintain privacy and minimise heat loss on the north side of the extension. Internally, the new kitchen/dining room has a vaulted ceiling with stainless steel tie rods. Rooflights and fine line patent glazing introduce light and through ventilation.
