Sion Road - extension and house improvements
The clients wanted to transform their 1950s house into a clean-lined, contemporary home while at the same time making it as sustainable as possible.
The new extension over the garage has a striking form, with an asymmetric black zinc roof. At the rear the extension is clad in natural Siberian larch, softening the facade facing the garden. The extension is purposely visually distinct from the main house.
Several changes were made in order to improve the energy efficiency of the house. All external walls were clad in rendered insulation, and the windows were replaced with low U-value aluminium units. The whole roof was insulated and the concrete tiles were replaced with black zinc.
The result is a very energy efficient house with a strong contemporary look.
